This was a ring that always made the owner feel as though her small diamonds never showed and never sparkled. The problem was not the diamonds. They were very decent. It was that the diamonds in the channel setting were very deeply set and more metal covered them than was necessary. We suggested taking the diamonds out of the channel setting and insetting white gold plates, and then pave setting the diamonds. It made a huge difference to the brilliance of the diamonds. This is not to say that pave setting is better than channel setting. If done correctly, both allow the diamond to sparkle. The white gold plates may help to make the ring look as though it has more diamonds.
