With the myriad of celebrities and so many engagements, it can be hard to track them all. Some set trends. Some follow trends. And some cause jewellers serious heart palpitations.
I picked my top five celebrity engagement rings based on what is best about them. This has nothing to do with the celebrity’s talents, looks, or politics – just the ring and nothing but.
Dua Lipa
This young star has one of my absolute favourite styles. It is chunky and solid. It is yellow gold, which looks so rich and traditional. The added features of a semi-bezel to hold the centre diamond will give years of great wear that should be trouble-free, and the flat edges will allow for a flush fitting band of virtually any style. I could see this paired with a nice diamond band. Style mixed with durability makes this a favourite.
Zendaya
One of my favourite actresses had her ring for a while before it became apparent that she was engaged. I like the combination of the east-west setting of the elongated cushion-shaped diamond. Mostly, I like the fact that the band which appears to have a slightly reversed taper is not uber-thin. It looks normal and that means it will translate into copycat versions that can last.
Mariah Carey
I never said the rings had to be recent engagements. The ring Mariah wears is definitely on the larger side, which may not be easy to duplicate. However, the way the ring is made, with the large baguette diamonds on either side of the emerald cut centre, is a classic. The double prongs make the center diamond more secure and all around the rings looks like it
is well built and made to last.
Queen Elizabeth II
Yes, this is going back a way, but it also proves that great design never goes out of style or out of date. Her ring is very sturdy and well-built. The small diamonds on the sides are not exposed to wear and tear, though a monarch is not likely going to be hard on her jewellery. The large round centre in the platinum ring stands out for its brilliance and elegance. In the picture of her ring, look closely at the tips holding the diamond in place. After seven decades, they are showing wear and need some work. But this attests to the quality of the design that it wore that well for that long before it showed some wear.
Miley Cyrus
I love the bold wide look in yellow gold on her long fingers. Again, another chunky ring. Many would say the ring looks masculine, but I would argue it is bold. With the elongated cushion cut, set east-west and embedded into the ring, the style is made to last. And this style will take a beating, maybe not a wrecking ball, but from everyday wear without any issues.
There are so many other great looks that it is hard to pick just five, but these are my favourite celebrity engagement rings. And I based it mostly on the wearability for the average person looking to duplicate the look.
